Welcome to the Winton School
Website
Winton is a thriving Central Southland rural town with a population of
2,700 people.
Set
in the Southland Plains, Winton is the hub of an established and
affluent farming district, located just 20 minutes from Invercargill
city and less than 2 hours from the international resort of Queenstown.
It is an attractive town with many well laid out gardens, has a modern
well-equipped medical centre, boasts excellent cafes, restaurants and
bars and a large number of sports clubs.
Winton School was
established in 1870. We have a roll of 252 pupils from Year 1
to
Year 8. The school has 11 classrooms and a Technology Centre,
which provides technology education to the Year 7 and 8 students from
Winton and surrounding schools.
In
early 2010 two new state of the art
classrooms were opened. In December of 2010 a new library and
administration area were constructed along with an upgrade of our hall.
In 2011 an 11th classroom was built to accomodate roll growth. In
2013 the Middle school is being redeveloped so that all pupils will be
provided with the best in modern learning environments.
Winton School also houses a brand new dental clinic which serves the
Central Southland area. Along with fantastic facilities
our students enjoy superb ICT resources and, most
importantly, an
excellent team of teachers. Our recent ERO report can be found at www.ero.govt.nz
As the Principal of Winton School
I am proud to lead a dedicated team of teachers and support staff
committed to providing our students with the skills, knowledge and
attitudes for the 21st Century.
The Winton School values of
respect, excellence, responsibility and cooperation underpin all we do,
whether it is in our learning, on the sports field or in our everyday
interactions with others. Strong community support is a feature of our
school and we encourage parents to be involved in their child's
learning throughout their years at school.
