Winton School PTA News Update

Winton School PTA
President’s Report 2009-2010 from  Tash Milne

Wow I can’t believe this is the end of my two year stint.  What another busy year we have had.  Looking through the list of things that we have achieved is pretty amazing really.

The BIG DAY OUT would have to be our biggest achievement in the last 12 months.  So much planning and as much as it rains on the morning of the big day, it still does all come together!!!  A huge thank to all our amazing committee members and parents that turned up on the day offering a hand, it was all deeply appreciated.  It was a very successful day considering the weather.  Lee McMaster and Ruth Dyer did a great job on the Giant Raffle, a lot of work goes into this to get the excellent prizes.  Well Done.  A huge thank you also to Paula and Anthony Dalzell, they donated a lamb on the spit for the BBQ.  These two have done huge amounts of work for both the PTA and the BOT, they are going to be missed next year.

Another great day we put together was The Amazing Race.  We had 22 families who trusted us to have a great family day, and fun they had!  We were extremely rapt with the turnout of families.  It was a day of heaps of laughs.

Our Friday BBQ is still going strong, a huge thank you to Nikki Hume for organizing the roster, and to our term managers, Tracey McMaster, Kelly Gilbert, Sue Ballantyne, Fiona Smith and our current top lady, Kerri Hindle.  And to our parents who help cook the sausages, your continuing support is exceptional.

On the fundraising front, we did pizza and cakes, Kaboodle bags and labels, and of course the Christmas Raffle, a big thanks to all who were involved in running these.  Ravensdown approached us about catering at the Waimumu Field Days, thanks to all the parents that helped over that 3 day period, it was a huge ask and you all did an awesome job!
The school photos this year  by Lifestyle turned out really great, the PTA ran this and we even managed to make a few bucks. We also provided catering for the Lions for one of their meetings held at the school.

Some of the other things we have done in the last year;

•    A ski trip which is always very popular, with the adults and kids.
•    Donation for the 3 girls from year 6 who went to Auckland for receive their technology prize.
•    End of year medallions for the year 8s.
•    Maintaining and purchasing school sun hats for every child in the school. Thanks to Ruth Dyer,
      and also the hat counters!!!
•    Our ongoing Friday sausage sizzles.
•    End of term treats.
•    Funds for the Robotic Programme.
•    CD players to assist with reading.
•    A letter P themed disco – which all the kids had a blast at!!! Thanks to all our hard working helpers,        who set up and tidied up, and to Bryce for supplying the big P’s - they looked great.
•    $500 to each school camp.
•    Each class was given $100 for the teacher to purchase new games for the kids
•    Year 8 and parent break-up party, we had a BBQ and ice-cream and strawberries, good night
      had by all.
•    Second-hand uniform shop is ticking away nicely.

Our Xmas party was great fun.  Some very interesting Xmas trees were made, then we had a round robin of games, which included darts, pool and indoor bowls . A very good night!

A big thanks goes to our amazing principal, Andrew Smith who supports our meetings and keeps us well informed with what is going on with our kids.  You are doing a great job, keep it up!!!

To Nikki and Kelly you guys are amazing committee members - no problem too big or too small and you guys are always there to help. Thank you for all your support and help.  Thanks to Sharyn Goodman for keeping all our accounts in order, it is not an easy task, but yet you make it look easy!! Good luck with your move to the Board of Trustees.  And to Gryda Ottermann who keeps all the written stuff on track, and keeps me sorted!

A huge thanks to ALL the committee members who come once a month to learn a bit about the school and your kids, share a coffee and a joke, and help out when needed, without you guys, it would be extremely difficult.

I wish Nikki all the best for her stint as President; I know you will be awesome!

Cheers
